For the Final, you should be able to perform the following tasks: - You should be able to articulate the three Foundational Axioms of Science
- You should be able to describe and provide examples of the three Methods of Scientific Research
- You should be able to explain the five criteria that help us decide between competing hypotheses.
- You should be able to explain the four components of the SEARCH method for evaluating claims.
- You
should be able to explain what the theory of evolution states,
including the five components of the theory discussed in class.
- You should be able to explain what Intelligent Design is.
- You should be able to explain the arguments in support of Intelligent Design discussed in class.
- You should be able to explain the arguments in support of Evolution discussed in class.
- You should be able to describe the Standard Model of the Media.
- You should be able to Describe the Alternative Model of Democracy.
- You should be able to explain the five filters that make up the Propaganda Model of Media.
- You
should be able to define and give examples of Mainstream and
Alternative Media and explain some of the issues that arise in assessing
the credibility of them.
- You should be able to explain what a video news release is and how it functions.
- You should be able to articulate some examples of the role played by Public Relations firms in shaping public policy.
- You should be able to explain what a Front Group is and some of the roles they play in shaping public policy.
Lastly, you should be prepared to write a short essay in which you discuss how the film Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed deals with issues of science. In addition, you should be able to describe three fallacies committed in the film. |
