For the final exam you will need to bring a blue book (the large 8 1/2" by 11" size) or regular note paper, as well as something to write with. The exam will consist of two in-class essays. Essay 1: You will be given a narrative of someone's experience of an extraordinary event, and you will then write an essay evaluating that narrative using the tools we have developed over the course of the semester. For this essay you should pay particular attention to our discussion of personal experience. Essay 2: You will be given a description of a potentially pseudoscientific product or practice, and you will then write an essay evaluating that product or practice using the tools we have developed over the course of the semester. You will need to employ the SEARCH method, as well as your understanding of science and fallacies. |
