TtT: Radical Education Summit 2012

The Philosophy of Civil Disobedience
Monday, July 16 12:30-2:00 PM
San Diego City College

This workshop will consist of a discussion of some of the philosophical underpinnings of civil disobedience. I hope for the conversation to range where it will. As a starting point for our discussion I would like to begin with the perspectives presented in the following two essays:

The essay by Plato suggests that civil disobedience is immoral, while the second essay by Thoreau argues that civil disobedience is a moral obligation. During this workshop I would like to debate these two perspectives and consider the reasons each author gives for his respective position.
